This is a continuation to yesterday’s post…

You already know that you need to lead with value. You know that your online warm leads don’t care about your business. What is my “Why”?

To be successful at anything we must have a really great reason for doing it. To be successful we need vision, passion, motivation, focus and persistence. Without these key elements we will not find success in what we put our minds to, or very limited success at a best. Yet, we have to find these keys within ourselves. No one can put them into you, and no one can do these things, or feel these things, for you. If we are lucky enough, we can find someone like Drew who is capable of helping us find these keys. A mentor is a great asset in our journey to success in business and life, but the real work comes for each of us individually doing our thing. So the big question is, how do we find these keys to success? The short answer is ‘why are we doing what we are doing’?

This holds true in anything in our lives, good or bad, because if we give our energy to negative things, then that is what we will be successful at. Therefore, what we need is to find our passionate ‘why’ for the things that we want in our lives and truly love. We need to find the emotion that is driving us to do something. I am a photographer by desire and drive. I am driven to capture images of the world around me because I see things in my own unique way and I love to communicate that through photography. But, I don’t consider any of my images great until they evoke an emotion within me and within others viewing them. That is when a total stranger becomes motivated to buy one of my images, and I understand that and feel the same exact way. This is exactly how it works for everything we do in our lives.

Why did I join this company? Why am I starting something new in my life (at my ripe age)? Why am I willing to risk so much in a brand new field for me? It’s because I feel so very passionately about changing my life style. It is overwhelming at first, and I have to overcome my unfamiliarity with the methods and processes of doing the ‘work’, but I have the passion and motivation to keep me focused on my vision. With all of these keys, I only need to be persistent and I will succeed. It is that simple. So, find your passionate ‘why’ and whatever it is about…do that! Use it to become the best at what you are.

Review: “The Abundance Book” by John Randolph Price

As I have dove into MLM training headfirst, I am trying to gain as much knowledge as possible. My mentor, Drew Berman, has given me an incredible amount of resources. One of the books he has given me that I have just finished is called “The Abundance Book” by author John Randolph Price. I have to start by saying that I do have some tenure in the school of thought taught by Abraham Hicks, and I also have some surface knowledge of the Landmark Forum – both actually introduced to me by my business partner a little over 2 years ago. These two disciplines are an excellent foundation for this book. However, “The Abundance Book” is also a phenomenal introduction to a new way of being that can be utilized by anyone regardless of his or her prior knowledge or experience.

We are our own prosperity. We all come into being, into this life, this material world, with the source of our self and being pre-programmed for lavish abundance. Somehow along the way many of us lose consciousness of this source and become disconnected from our own prosperity. We all get caught in the mental trap of focusing on the end result – money. It seems all too easy to focus on the lack of our current (financial) situations. Many have spent a lifetime firmly entrenched in this thought train and thus the challenge presents itself – to undo (and not just undo but to transform) years of conscious and sub-conscious thought patterns and self awareness (or lack thereof).

Mr. Price lays the groundwork by giving an explanation of the principle of All-Sufficiency and then puts that theory into action with the 40 Day Prosperity Plan. It is an easy to follow daily series of exercises that serve to re-connect us with our inner source of self-awareness and abundance. For those who have been focusing on lack and the money that will pull them out of that condition of lack, this whole process may seem esoteric and maybe even religious. Let us not forget the incredible, but entirely possible, task of transforming years and years of thought and consciousness patterns.

The author then proceeds to further your understanding of the self-groundwork in the next chapter You Are Your Own Money, and closes out the book with a compilation of prosperity thoughts and meditations.

I have read and re-read this book several times (and I am still re-reading it) and little enlightenments continue to reveal themselves to me. I can only liken it to a crystal clear day that turns to night and throughout the process of the sun setting one star at a time becomes apparent as the sky darkens, and more and more reveal themselves until at last the entire night sky is filled with points of light (and knowledge).

And all this for less than $6.00???

Who is on YOUR team?

My name is Al and I am self-employed. I have been an entrepreneur in the home painting and decorating business for over 15 years. I have had the pleasure of experiencing the growth of my company in all but 1 year of its existence (I bet you can guess what year that was!).

Needless to say, the experience of the past year has been a bit unsettling. Being an entrepreneur I began to investigate other ways to supplement (or even replace) my income. It seemed as if the “traditional or usual” way to earn an income had been compromised enough (at least for the time being) to send me searching for a better way.

So I stumbled into network marketing. A friend of a friend was talking about this great new product and how we are going to make a ton of money off of it, so naturally I was intrigued. Intrigued enough that I signed up (along with a few of my friends in that social network).

It was a pretty good product. It was a great business model and compensation plan. After learning the business and getting my feet wet over the next couple months I found that I had little knowledge of what network marketing really consisted of. I had several pre-conceived notions that now seemed silly. What thrilled me the most was the idea of an actual, sustainable passive income. But after being involved in this particular company for the time that I was, I came to realize that there was a major piece of this puzzle missing. A piece that was big enough to sabotage any chance of any residual (or current for that matter) income. Of all the people I knew and was working with in this company there was never any real focus or game-plan or goals.

There was a ton of energy (which was a good thing – good to keep everyone excited) but there was absolutely no focus. There was no team work and no expert training and/or mentoring.

It was a great business model with a decent product with no means of implementation and execution.

My next train of thought was (albeit obviously) to find a company that had a great product (or line of products) and a brilliant compensation plan all combined with an experienced team that knew how to harness energy and enthusiasm and channel it into a focus that could be effectively used.

And then I found it!

I found a company that was not missing any pieces to the puzzle.

  • Great product line
  • Brilliant compensation plan
  • Longevity (and upward growth curve)
  • Positive and energetic founders and leaders
  • Focused and precise methods

And, to top it all off, I am especially fortunate to have become an associate in a team working very closely with a network marketing industry leader. His name is Drew Berman. Although I have a good deal to learn still, I feel that in this team, along with Drew’s unwavering guidance, I have the tools I need at my disposal to succeed at something that in the past I would have never thought possible. The sky is the limit!

You Have 7 Seconds

How do I approach people? How do I get them interested in my business so they will become customers? These are the greatest questions of all. You always hear it being said that people do business with people, not companies, and that can’t be more true. It is from developing relationships with people that they align themselves with you, listen to you, trust you and, eventually, do business with you. So how does that all begin?

First of all, you will never win anyone’s trust and admiration if you talk your head off. Are you trying to convince them of something or are you just telling them your story? That is what it is truly all about. If you are ‘selling’ then you are not in the right business. Selling turns people off. However, if you are telling them your story, really telling them what your passion is about ‘why’ that you are in the business, your passion about the vision and the company, then that is what they are going to feel. Your passion. Still, the story has to be short. ‘TMI’. I am sure you have heard of that saying. TMI…too much information. It is very tough, especially when we are new at it.

One of the golden nuggets of our training for approaching our prospects is to learn how to deliver the ‘seven second story’. It is difficult, because of our passion and how much we want to share every little thing that has happened to us on our journey. Still, the seven second story is always a winner. I happened to be watching one of my favorite TV shows by going to the network website and playing it as a streaming video. I had to suffer the commercials that they inserted every so often. However, these were for a new computer operating system (I am sure you have heard of it) and each one was a seven second story. They even had the timer counting down on the screen. They get it…

So, figure out your story. Practice it with others. Hone it down. Tell it short and sweet and let it sink in. The ones whom you are talking to who want to hear more will ask for more. In this case, less is way more! Why are you in business for yourself? Let’s hear it in seven seconds.

What do Oprah and Fergie have in common?

Teamwork! That is the key. Working with other humans. In unison. As one.

Most people in network marketing try to do their own thing. They take the Lone Ranger approach. Like the first woman in this video.

When my wife called me in yesterday to sit me down to watch Oprah, I happily sat down and started folding laundry. She said no no – you gotta watch this. And so I did. And I was amazed. When I found it on YouTube I saw that 2 million viewers had already seen it. Wow. I have watched it half a dozen times already.

The Black Eyed Peas kick off the opening of the 24th season of the Oprah Winfrey in Chicago. The video starts with Fergie and The Black Eyed Peas jamming out to I Gotta Feeling – It’s gonna be a great day. The stage is loud, with lights, giant robots, explosions and – Oprah. And a crowd that is watching and very obviously not dancing. In the front row there is a woman, dancing her tail off, having a ball. As she is throwing her whole self, her whole body, into this funkadelic scene – everyone else is watching, motionless.

Sounds like my first experience in network marketing. I was crazed! Dancing like a maniac at the meetings. Yelling and screaming that I was gonna make a million bucks. And when I came home, I was the only one dancing. In fact 5 years later, after dumping thousands of dollars into the sizzle but never getting any steak, I was still dancing alone.

The video continues as slowly, but surely the crowd starts to move, and grove to the funky fresh hip hop jam that the band is brilliantly bringing from stage. Fergie gets down and dirty and the crowd goes nuts – literally – in a synchronized dance that actually plays the band. The crowd actually plays the band. And Oprah just watches in awe.

Fast forward to my current team. I started out dancing like a maniac screaming financial freedom from the roof tops and no one would listen. Sound familiar? Now I have a team of almost 10,000 people. Yes we all have separate attentions and intentions…separate teams building all over the continent and spread around 7 countries. But we are building with a common purpose, a common vision – to free people from physical and financial pain. And in the process we will create
more 6 and 7 figure income earners then any company in history.

Yes. It’s true we are dancing. We are having fun. We get healthier every single day. We are making money. We are Aligned with a common purpose, a common vision, a sychronized dance.

Just like the Black Eyed Peas pulled off from stage. A simple dance, as a team.

And Oprah loved it.

Your MLM Fortune is in the Zoo!

Are you struggling in your MLM business? Is it more work than fun? Do you always have more month at the end of your money? Lighten up. Go to the zoo.

Yes, the zoo. What for? To visit four members of the animal kingdom. Lions, monkeys, owls, and koalas – in that order. Make sure you bring a camera, a notebook, and a pen. You don’t need peanuts. You’re not going feed the animals.

Actually, the animals are going to feed you. They’re going to fill your plate with knowledge. They’re going to teach you how to prospect successfully. They’re going to reveal the secrets to your MLM fortune.

If you think I’ve left the rails, stop reading this and watch TV. Eat a bag of chips while you’re at it and guzzle a beer. Work yourself into a comfortable stupor like most people who bitch and moan about how hard it is to succeed in Network Marketing.

But if your gut tells you there’s something to learn here, read on.

Okay. I’ll cut to the chase. Animals are mirrors of human behavior. If you don’t flinch when you look at them, you’ll learn why people do what they do. You may even learn something about yourself.

The lion is the king of the jungle. He commands respect. He takes action and gets what he wants. He challenges other animals. He is a leader.

Monkeys are wildly energetic. They’re pranksters. Their motto is, “Have fun!”

Owls are laid back, reserved. You could say they’re pensive. A person who’s an owl is an analytical thinker.

Koalas nurture. Human koalas love to support and serve others.

There you have it. These four animals describe the four main types of human beings. They describe your prospects.

How can you apply this to your business right now? Just follow these simple steps:

* Abandon your agenda – your script when you talk to people.
* Ask questions and listen carefully to your prospects’ answers.
* Let people reveal their primary animal type to you.
* Present your opportunity differently to each animal.

You’ll discover where you can learn more about each step at the end of this article. Now, burn the essence of the four steps into your memory. You can summarize it in four words:

How To Improve Your Listening Skills

When people talk, do you hear or listen? There’s a big difference, you know?! How often have you responded to the question, “How are you?” only to discover that the other person – the person that asked you the question – isn’t even paying attention anymore? If you’re like most people, you probably felt slighted and maybe a little hurt, perhaps even aggravated. People want to be heard – and listened to.

Let’s be honest. Everyone does it. At one time or another, you’ve not really listened when you should have. We should all make every attempt to hear and listen to those around us. If you find that your listening skills need some tuning, implementing just one of these tips would be a step in the right direction.

Are you still listening???

8 Ways to Improve Your Listening Skills

  1. Shut your mouth! It sounds pretty straight forward – stop talking so much.  Yes, it’s difficult to do.  For what it’s worth, most people prefer to talk – especially about themselves – and especially when they’re nervous.  Stifle it.  Internalize the speaker’s words.  Understand them.  Be engrossed.  Fight the urge to speak, even if you have an opinion, suggestion, or answer.  Wait until asked.
  2. Remove distractions. Give the speaker your undivided attention. Whether it be a co-worker, neighbor, or child, being distracted, or worse, giving in to those distractions is rude.  If distractions are unavoidable, at least make amends to the extent that you can control – hang up the phone, turn off the TV, or close the door.
  3. Open your mind. Again, though you may have an opinion – and you have every right to do so – keep it to yourself, unless specifically asked.  If you’re not asked, simply let it slide. If you are asked, be explicit that your response is yours and that you’re not imposing your beliefs, “I feel that…”
  4. Appreciate the speaker’s perspective. Walk in the speaker’s shoes, well, figuratively, to better understand where they’re coming from.  Find themes that you can agree with.
  5. Wait your turn. Do not cut someone off just to get in your two cents. At the same time, don’t create mental responses to a list of points during the conversation.  You’ll spend more time trying to compile those notes than actually listening.  When given the opportunity, ask clarifying questions.
  6. Listen actively. Articulate to the speaker – paraphrase – what you’ve heard in order to get confirmation that you truly understand the speaker’s message.
  7. “See” the big picture. When you are listening to a speaker, take in the speaker’s emotions, tone, gestures, the speed that they’re talking, and other non-verbal queues such as crossed arms or legs, eye contact (or lack thereof), and smile (again, or lack thereof).  All these paint a much more accurate impression as compared to the words alone.  You may even acknowledge these emotions, “You seem to feel angry…”
  8. Last, and certainly not least, make a commitment to improve your listening skills. Unless you acknowledge a deficiency and commit to improvement, nothing will change. Listening is not a skill we’re born with. We need to practice and perfect good listening skills.  If nothing changes, nothing changes.

Listening is a gift. By improving your listening skills, you will be a better friend, colleague, and leader. People will naturally appreciate you. These tips will help, but it may take time.  The rewards, however, will be worth it.
